Congress leader Pawan Khera accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of using issues like Pakistan and illegal immigration as political tools ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly Election. Responding to attacks by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, Khera alleged that such rhetoric is meant to distract voters from governance failures. He claimed that if the BJP government had delivered on its promises over the past decade, it would not need to rely on divisive narratives during elections. Khera also cited data to argue that deportations of illegal migrants were higher during the UPA government and insisted that issues related to infiltration should be addressed within the framework of the Assam Accord.
