Africa News | Madagascar President Hails 'Historic Turning Point' For Nation As He Takes Charge

Col. Michael Randrianirina told a ceremony marking his swearing in as Madagascar's new leader after seizing power from President Andry Rajoelina in a military coup, "today marks a historic turning-point for our country." Randrianirina detailed the popular protests he said had been mostly led by young people in distress over living conditions, adding "with the support of its brothers in arms and law enforcement," the army had "wisely decided to stand with the people."
