- Indian Railways plans to expand food reforms and local cuisines across Vande Bharat routes.
Food served on Indian trains has long been a topic of debate among passengers. While many travellers rely on onboard meals during long journeys, concerns about quality and hygiene have frequently surfaced over the years. However, a recent video from the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is challenging those perceptions. Traveller vlogger Aditya Yadav shared a video on Instagram that featured a railway staff member distributing sealed meal boxes inside a clean compartment while wearing gloves, a mask and a hairnet. He was seen handing out meal boxes from a big, blue, enclosed trolley that he had brought with him. The trolley looked spotless, with no visible signs of wear and tear. The train compartment itself was tidy and litter-free, which is a rare sight in many Indian trains.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Express's hygiene standards impressed the internet users. Several shared their thoughts on the food service in the comment section.
One user wrote, "Now after seeing this, many of us will think why can't service like this and a train like that be everywhere in India. It's not there because of our civic sense."
Another added, "People should follow civic sense and discipline. We appreciate foreign countries but we don't make our country to be appreciated."
Someone else shared, "Please keep the train clean."
"It seems you've never travelled with Rajdhani. Rajdhani has been serving food like this for 20 years now," remarked an individual.
"Just for a few days... then the situation will become like before... same thing happened with Duranto Express, what service was available in the beginning, later everything became like before," read a comment.

Back in January 2026, Indian Railways had announced that local cuisines would be served on all Vande Bharat trains. The pilot project started with six routes, including Nagpur-Secunderabad, Sabarmati-Veraval, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Srinagar, Srinagar-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram. The comprehensive food reforms are set to take place across the Indian Railways network.
