The Mizoram government has sanctioned plans to develop a ropeway at Vantawng Falls near Thenzawl town in Serchhip district to enhance tourism and the local economy. The project, funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, focuses on tourism infrastructure in the state, safety, environmental care, and job creation, as per an official.
Mizoram To Get A New Ropeway At Vantawng Falls
The ropeway will allow visitors to witness Mizoram's highest waterfall from a bird's-eye view, offering a memory for a lifetime. The official also revealed that around Rs 34.50 crore has been sanctioned for the project under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. She mentioned that although financial and administrative approval has already been granted, the selection of a contractor for executing the construction is underway.
According to the officials and local stakeholders, the project is likely to generate employment opportunities in and around Thenzawl. In addition to enhancing the visitor experience, the proposed ropeway is expected to improve accessibility to the site.

Vantawng Falls Are A Must-Visit In Mizoram
Located about 92 km from Aizawl, Vantawng Falls is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mizoram. Counted as the highest waterfall in the state and the 13th among the highest waterfalls in the country, the two-tiered waterfall has an altitude of 750 feet (230 metres). Although the surrounding forested hillsides make it difficult to access, there's a viewing tower to witness its beauty.
This waterfall is named after Vantawnga, a great swimmer who could stay still in the rushing water like a fish. Sadly, during one of these swims, a log that was floating above fell and killed him.
Tips For Visiting Vantawng Falls
Best time to visit: Consider a trip between October and March, as the pleasant weather makes it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The monsoon season, from June to September, is also a good time to visit the magnificent waterfall, but you may face some difficulties in reaching the waterfall due to landslides and roadblocks.
What to pack & wear: Carry a water bottle and some dry snacks with you, as the journey is a bit long and challenging. Wear comfortable shoes for trekking in the slippery paths near the waterfall.

How to reach: You can visit the waterfall in various ways. The waterfall is situated 137 km from Lengpui Airport in Aizawl, which is well connected to several other cities. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or a bus to reach Thenzawl in about 3 hours. From Thenzawl, take a local taxi or a jeep to reach the waterfall in about 15 minutes.
You can take a train to Silchar in Assam, from where you need to take a bus or a taxi to reach Aizawl in about 6 hours. From Aizawl, you can book a local vehicle to reach the waterfall. You can also drive to Vantawng Falls from Aizawl or other nearby cities
