Abu Dhabi

I am always finding opportunities to jet off to a new location for a rejuvenating break. When my husband and I finally carved out time for a much-needed holiday, Abu Dhabi wasn't the obvious first choice. But as we soon discovered, it turned out to be one of the most memorable romantic breaks we could have asked for. Between luxurious stays, cultural wonders, and shared adventures, the trip reminded us why travelling together is the best way to reconnect amid the busyness of life.

A Stay to Remember at Rixos Marina

Our base in Abu Dhabi was the Rixos Marina, where we stayed in a spacious suite complete with a living room that gave us the privacy and comfort we craved. The property itself was stunning - grand architecture, manicured spaces, and every amenity you could think of.

Days often began by the pool, where we lazed on sunbeds or dipped into the cool water, sometimes catching poolside dance performances that set the mood for the evening. The private beach was another favourite-clean, quiet, and romantic, especially during sunset strolls. Dining at Rixos was a highlight in itself. Whether it was international buffets or local Emirati dishes, the variety made every meal feel like an indulgence.

Awe at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

No visit to Abu Dhabi is complete without seeing the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and for us, it became one of the most breathtaking memories of the trip. As we approached the gleaming white marble structure with its 82 domes and delicate carvings, we were awestruck by its scale and elegance.

Beyond its beauty, the mosque offered something deeper-a sense of serenity and an opportunity to learn about Islamic culture. Walking hand-in-hand through its courtyards felt both humbling and romantic.

Dining Like Royalty

Abu Dhabi knows how to spoil you with food. One evening, we indulged in an unforgettable Iftar at The Majlis by the Sea at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental. The setting itself was magical, with the sea breeze carrying aromas of Arabic spices, and the food was a blend of Michelin-star precision and traditional flavours. It was easily one of the most luxurious (and romantic) meals we've ever shared.

Another favourite was Ryba at Souq Al Mina, where we indulged in a chef-curated Ramadan menu. Every dish was beautifully presented, and the cosy atmosphere added a touch of intimacy.

We didn't miss a chance to explore other dining gems either. Lunch at Al Fanar Restaurant inside Yas Mall gave us a taste of authentic Emirati cuisine in a setting designed to evoke nostalgia. And then there was Zuma, a popular Japanese restaurant chain, where we experienced the cuisine at its finest -intense flavours, stylish presentation, and a lively yet intimate atmosphere. Every dish came to the table with flair, showing off both technique and presentation.

Yas Island Adventures

We spent an entire day at Yas Island, where entertainment never seems to end. I suggest everyone to take a stroll at Yas Beach, and then head for shopping at Yas Mall nearby.

We also unleashed our inner children at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. Moving between Gotham City and Cartoon Junction, laughing on rides, and posing with characters like Bugs Bunny made us feel young again. Another day was dedicated to Yas Waterworld, where we raced down slides, floated along the lazy river, and simply enjoyed being playful together.

Desert Safari Magic

If there was one experience that brought out the romance of Abu Dhabi in full force, it was the desert safari. As our car glided over sand dunes, it turned into a thrilling adventure that had us on the edge of our seats. We rode camels and dirt bikes and then settled into traditional tents for a Ramadan Iftar under the stars. Between the soulful music and immersive traditional dance performances, and the vastness of the desert, it felt like time stood still.

Beaches, Wildlife, and Beyond

For quieter beach moments, Corniche Beach is a great spot, where you can walk along the promenade.

We also tried something unique at the Emirates Park Zoo & Resort, where Iftar took on a wild twist, quite literally, with animals. We had a meal in the company of sea lions who greeted us and even performed for us. It was quirky, memorable, and surprisingly romantic in its own way.

To round things off, we visited SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, a fascinating marine world that combined entertainment and education beautifully. It reminded us of the wonder of discovering the ocean life together.

Why Abu Dhabi Won Our Hearts

Looking back, this trip was far more than a checklist of attractions. It was about shared moments, quiet breakfasts at our hotel suite, laughter at theme parks, awe inside the mosque, and the romance of the desert.

With its balance of luxury, culture, and adventure, our trip to Abu Dhabi turned out to be exactly what we needed as a couple.
