More About Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

The park's name, Capilano, is inspired by the Squamish Nation's Kia'palano, which translates to "beautiful river." Soaring 230 feet (70 metres) above the Capilano River, the swinging bridge stretches 137 metres (450 feet) from the well-maintained and lush gardens decorated with First Nations totem poles to the tranquil rainforest.

You might have to take wobbly steps while walking on the bridge, but do not get scared by the constant swaying. The bridge, originally constructed from cedar planks and hemp rope in 1889, can now handle the weight of a fully loaded 747 plane. In fact, the sturdy steel cables make it strong enough to carry more than 70 adult elephants.
