Informed sources have denied reports in the British media that India has mobilised diplomatic resources to bring back the Kohinoor diamond and other artefacts including idols and sculptures from museums in Britain.

The controversial colonial-era Kohinoor diamond claimed by India is to be cast as a "symbol of conquest" as part of a new display of Britain's Crown Jewels at the Tower of London set to open to the public in May.

Broadcaster Emma Webb stated that the UK should not be returning the jewels to their geographical origins as "ownership can be disputed".

India should not try to reclaim the famous Kohinoor diamond as it was neither stolen nor forcibly taken, the government said today. That stand, the Supreme Court has warned, could mean "You will face a problem in the future for making any legitimate claim" to the 105-carat diamond.
