India Plan For Gulf Nations

To counter China's footprint in Gulf, India is planning an ambitious connectivity project that aims to link New Delhi to the Middle East, reported Foreign Policy.

The dedicated line will produce engines over 250 cc and will serve markets like Thailand, the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and Gulf nations among others.

The Congress Working Committee on Saturday hit out at the centre for its approach to the situation in the Gulf due to tensions between the US and Iran, saying that it is imperative that India puts in place well-thought contingency plan to meet any situation in view of needs of its energy security and presence of a large diaspora in the region.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Baker Al-Baker had last month announced plans to set up an airline in India along with the Gulf nation's sovereign wealth fund.

India is firming up plans for possible sea and air evacuation of some 3,500 Indians stuck in war-torn Yemen. Sources say India wants to evacuate its nationals from the Yemeni port of Al Hodeida. But the plan depends on the security situation on the ground.
