Buoyed by the successful launch of the South Asia Satellite, the Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO is now busy preparing for the maiden launch of its heaviest rocket - the 640-tonne Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV Mk III).

"Antrix is also looking at launching small satellites in low orbits. Several small satellites can be accommodated in one GSLV."

India will launch a weather satellite next month with a heavy rocket, the geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV-Mk II), Indian space agency chief AS Kiran Kumar said in Chennai today.

The Indian space agency has already lined for putting US NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite into orbit using its GSLV-Mk II rocket, its chief said today.

The Indian space agency would, in all probability, declare its GSLV rocket variant -the GSLV-Mk II - fully operational if it successfully puts the GSAT-6 communication satellite into orbit, a senior official of Indian space agency said.
