Noida Police Commissioner Alok Singh has been honoured with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service this year on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, officials said on Saturday.

Ahead of Independence Day, Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner Alok Singh on Wednesday asked officials to beef up security and patrolling in public places across Noida and Greater Noida with surprise checks at shopping malls and markets.

Senior IPS officer Alok Singh on Wednesday took charge as the first commissioner of police of the newly-formed Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate.

Soon after the Cabinet gave its approval for the commissionerate system of policing in two cities, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday said that senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Sujit Pandey and Alok Singh will be the first police commissioners of Lucknow and Noida respectively.
