Weather Today, Delhi-NCR Rain, Northern India Monsoon Highlights: Delhi continued to swelter through what could be the last lap of summer on Tuesday, with weather experts saying that the southwest monsoon is likely to make its onset over the national capital around July 3 or 4 as favourable conditions develop across northern India.

Mahesh Palawat, Vice President, Skymet Weather, said the seasonal monsoon trough has currently extended from Punjab to the north Bay of Bengal, while the monsoon has already advanced over many parts of Uttar Pradesh, most of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh, and some more parts of Madhya Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the monthly average rainfall over the country as a whole during July 2026 is most likely to be below normal.

IMD had issued the first stage forecast for the 2026 southwest monsoon seasonal (June to September) rainfall over the country on April 13 and updated the forecast on May 29.

Monsoon Reaches All Parts Of Uttarakhand

The Southwest Monsoon reached all parts of Uttarakhand on Wednesday, even as the meteorological department has issued an 'Orange' alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in five districts, including Dehradun, for Thursday.

According to the Dehradun Meteorological Centre, the monsoon had knocked on the doors of most parts of the state on Tuesday, and by Wednesday, it had covered all parts of the state.

Several areas of the state witnessed rainfall on Wednesday. According to the weather centre, Dehradun recorded 56 mm of rain, Jolly Grant 52.5 mm, Laksar 49 mm, Mussoorie 43 mm, Rudraprayag 32.5 mm, Haldwani 29.5 mm, Pauri 28.5 mm, Bhimtal 25 mm, Kirtinagar 23.5 mm, and Khanpur recorded 23 mm of rain.

Weather Office Issues Alert For Very Heavy To Extremely Heavy Rainfall In Madhya Pradesh Till July 5

The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Bhopal centre has predicted widespread very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 kilometre per hour across Madhya Pradesh during the next five days starting from Wednesday, officials said.

The weather system is driven by the advancing Southwest monsoon, a seasonal trough, and an active Western disturbance currently influencing the region.

According to the Bhopal centre, significant rainfall was already recorded in several areas on July 1, with Khargone receiving 115 millimetres, Ashta 109 millimetres, Pachmarhi 88.4 millimetres, and other places like Birsinghpur, Satwas, and Balaghat also reporting substantial downpours.

Heavy rainfall has been observed in districts, including Dewas, Sehore, Harda, Narmadapuram, Shivpuri, Betul, Khandwa, Satna, and Balaghat.

Union Cabinet Discusses Weather Conditions In Different Parts Of Country

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday discussed the prevailing weather conditions in the country, with some regions hit by rains and floods, and others facing below-normal rainfall, sources aware of the deliberations said.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took stock of the flood situation in the northeastern states, some of which have witnessed devastation in multiple districts.

The meeting also took note of the current rainfall deficit in some other parts of the country, the sources said.

Himachal Pradesh: Six Dead In Accidents Amid Persistent Monsoon Rains, 35 Roads Blocked

Persistent monsoon rains continued to batter Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, disrupting road connectivity and electricity supply across several districts while claiming six lives, according to the latest report issued by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

According to the SEOC, four people lost their lives in disaster-related incidents. Kangra district reported three fatalities caused by electrocution, lightning and falls, while one person died in Mandi district.

Heavy Rain In South Bengal From July 3: Weather Office

The weather office on Wednesday said a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal on July 3, bringing heavy rainfall to south Bengal, while the sub-Himalayan districts are expected to get respite from the heavy downpour experienced over the past several days.

A favourable wind pattern and strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal are likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts of south Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

It said heavy rainfall is likely over several south Bengal districts from July 4 to 7 due to the expected formation of the low-pressure area.

Weather Updates LIVE: Rain Brings Relief From Scorching Heat In Punjab, Haryana

Several parts of Punjab and Haryana witnessed rain on Wednesday, bringing relief from the scorching heat that gripped the region for the past several days, weather data showed.

In Punjab, showers were reported in Mohali, Kharar, Pathankot, Patiala and Hoshiarpur, while Ambala, Yamunanagar, Sonipat, Hisar, Rohtak and Karnal in Haryana and the Union territory of Chandigarh too witnessed downpour on Wednesday morning.

According to the weather department here, Pathankot recorded 61 mm of rainfall, while Hoshiarpur received 5.5 mm. In Haryana, Yamunanagar received 10.5 mm of rain, followed by Sonipat (5 mm) and Rohtak (3 mm), weather data showed.

Weather Updates LIVE: River Waters Rise, Many Roads Closed As Monsoon Rains Lash Himachal Pradesh

Torrential rain lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh, including the towns of Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala, leading to many roads being closed, river waters rising and electricity being disrupted, officials said on Wednesday.

Government and private schools that had closed because of the heat reopened but attendance was thin given the heavy rain.

With the southwest monsoon arriving in the hill state, there was no respite in sight. The local meteorological office issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places from July 2-6, except for July 4.

Water levels in several rivers and their tributaries rose. The Swan river in Una district was flowing in full spate, prompting authorities to advise people against venturing close to it.

Several parts of Mumbai received over 100 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8 am on Wednesday, resulting in waterlogging at the Andheri subway and a few other low-lying areas, officials said.

The inundation prompted the authorities to divert traffic, they said.

BEST buses operated normally, while suburban train services on the Central Railway and Western Railway were running with some delays, said officials.

Weather Updates LIVE: Southwest Monsoon Covers Parts Of Himachal Pradesh

The southwest monsoon advanced over parts of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, covering the entire Kinnaur district, most parts of Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti districts, many parts of Shimla and Mandi districts and some parts of Sirmaur and Kangra districts.

Conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance over the remaining parts of the state during the next two to three days, the Shimla Met office said.

Himachal Pradesh received 63.8 mm of rain against a normal of 95.4 mm from June 1 to 29, marking a deficit of 33 per cent, officials said.

The Southwest Monsoon arrived in most parts of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, bringing heavy rainfall and providing relief from heat and humidity.

Announcing the monsoon's arrival across the majority of the state, the Dehradun Meteorological Centre stated that conditions are favourable for it to reach the remaining areas within the next two to three days.

According to the centre, Dehradun recorded 57.8 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, while Champawat recorded 60 mm, Kalsi 49 mm, and Chakrata 14 mm.
