A shocking acid attack on a Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) agent in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam was caught on CCTV, with an unidentified man targeting the victim outside his home in Gajuwaka on Tuesday night.

The victim, identified as Venkata Apparao, lives in the area with his family.

According to police and family members, Apparao was sitting outside his house around 9:30 pm when a man approached him on foot, suddenly threw acid, and fled before anyone could react.

Hearing his cries, family members and neighbours rushed to his aid and took him to a nearby private hospital. He was later shifted to another hospital in Visakhapatnam for further treatment.

CCTV footage shows a man with his face covered by a cap and mask walking through an alley carrying a bottle. He is then seen approaching the victim, aiming at his face, flinging the bottle and running away.

Doctors said Apparao sustained burn injuries on his face, neck, and hands. While the injuries are serious, his condition is now stated to be stable.

Police have collected samples from the spot and are trying to determine the chemical used in the attack.

"We have registered a case and formed special teams. CCTV footage is being examined, dealings, and people close to the victim are being questioned. The attacker may be known to him, but it is too early to confirm the motive," police said.

Investigators are probing all possible angles, including personal disputes, business dealings and old rivalries.
