Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and several other north Indian states on Saturday evening.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquake activity, the epicentre of the earthquake was in Afghanistan, and its magnitude was 6.2 on the Richter Scale.
"EQ of M: 6.2, On: 27/06/2026 19:04:51 IST, Lat: 36.442 N, Long: 70.672 E, Depth: 215 Km, Location: Afghanistan," it wrote on X.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake struck 43 km south of Jurm in northeastern Afghanistan.
In Afghanistan, the earthquake was felt in Kabul and the eastern provinces of Khost and Nangarhar.
Tremors were also felt in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, Swat, Hangu, North Waziristan, Chitral and Rawalpindi.
The tremors triggered panic in some areas in the national capital, as residents rushed outside of their homes and offices.
In February, tremors were felt across Delhi-NCR and several parts of North India after an earthquake hit Afghanistan.
The earthquake came just days after twin earthquakes in Venezuela killed 920 people and injured thousands.
The earthquakes struck within a minute of each other on Wednesday evening, flattening buildings in the South American country. United Nations aid chief Tom Fletcher said that more than 50,000 people were missing.
