The Centre has proposed a three-day special session to the Opposition to discuss the Delimitation Bill. The special session will begin on August 16 and will conclude on August 18.

Responding to the proposal, the Congress said that it will convey its decision after consulting within the party and with other opposition parties.

Lok Sabha adjourned till 11 am tomorrow.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved The Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 in Lok Sabha.

The Bill aims to provide for law relating to evidence with respect to bankers’ books and to align it with contemporary digital banking practices and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal moved The Supreme Court (Number Of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026 in Rajya Sabha for consideration and passing.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in his chamber shortly after the Lok Sabha was adjourned within minutes of assembling amid Opposition sloganeering.

According to sources, Rijiju sought the Congress's cooperation on the Delimitation Bill and the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill that the government is keen to bring again in the current session.

Rahul Gandhi, however, rejected the government's request outright, according to the sources.

The Leader of Opposition told Kiren Rijiju that there can be no business in the House until there is a discussion on the alleged donation theft at the Ram Mandir and a statement by Home Minister Amit Shah on police action against students during the July 20 protest in the Capital, sources said.

Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 pm.

Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan has made two requests to the Members - not to enter the Well of the House and not to show placards in the House.

:These are two instructions that must be followed. If these instructions are not adhered to, I may not be able to hear those Members or give them an opportunity to speak, and I will be compelled to take appropriate action," he said. 

PM Modi today advised MPs to listen carefully to the speeches of other MPs, noting that there is much to be learned from them.

The PM said they should learn from everyone, whether they belong to the ruling side or the opposition.

He emphasised the importance of working together harmoniously.

The PM stated that there should be 100 percent attendance in the House.

During a breakfast meet with over 25 new NDA MPs in the Rajya Sabha today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all MPs to devote as much time as possible to House proceedings.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday submitted a notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha, seeking a discussion on the public outrage and consumer rights issues arising from the mandatory implementation of E20 petrol ahead of the Monsoon Session in Parliament.

In the Notice of Motion, Singh slammed the Centre's decision to advance its 20 per cent ethanol-blending target from 2030 to 2025, compelling millions of citizens to use a fuel which can potentially harm their vehicles.

"The government has advanced its ethanol-blending target from 2030 to 2025 and has effectively made E20 petrol the default fuel available at a large number of retail outlets (petrol pumps) nationwide. Consequently, millions of citizens are being compelled to use a fuel for which their vehicles were neither designed nor certified, all without any meaningful alternative or informed consent," he said.

Congress MP Manish Tewari has submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, seeking suspension of the day's listed business to discuss the need for a new anti-defection law to curb mass political defections.

In his notice, Tewari sought leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the House to discuss what he described a "definite matter of urgent public importance."
