Mathematician-turned-politician KC Sinha fought the Bihar polls from the Kumhrar seat in Patna, a BJP stronghold. Sinha was fielded by Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party.
Who Is KC Sinha?
Kalyan Chandra Sinha was born on December 29, 1954, in Bhojpur to Rewati Raman Prasad and Lakshmi Devi. He topped the state board examinations and earned a National Merit Scholarship. He enrolled at Patna Science College and later completed both his BSc and MSc degrees there, graduating as a double gold medalist. He earned a PhD in 1990.
Sinha wrote his first book, Coordinate Geometry, at age 28 and has authored over 70 so far. Many of his books have been included in the school curriculum in Bihar and other states for the past 30 years. He is known as "Mahaguru" in Bihar.
KC Sinha has been a professor for 59 years, beginning his teaching career at Patna University. He runs a YouTube channel where he shares lessons and tutorials in mathematics. It has almost 9,000 subscribers.
In October 2024, on the foundation day of the Jan Suraaj Party in Patna, Sinha said that Bihar students are hardworking and need quality education within the state. "If that happens, Bihar will reach the top," he said.
KC Sinha has trained students for competitive exams free of cost and supported girls' education by creating free digital learning materials for NGOs.
He has served as the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Dean of the Faculty of Science at Patna University. He was also the Principal of Patna Science College, widely regarded as one of Bihar's top colleges.
Later, he served as the Vice-Chancellor of Nalanda Open University.
KC Sinha has been honoured with multiple awards, including the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Shiksha Puraskar, Icons of Bihar Award, Global Excellence Award, and Pioneers of India Award, for his contributions to education.
