Once there is invasive intervention (such as surgery) in the brain, the risk of seizures (fits) increases. As a preventive therapy, eptoin sodium (sold under many brands such as Epsolin, Eptoin etc.) is routinely administered. Despite its potential side effects, it is necessary to take the drug because if a seizure occurs, it is more risky than adverse effects of the drug. It would be prudent not to drive or operate machinery for the next six months.
