Do I have hypothyroidism?
Question
I am a 24 years old female diagnosed with hypothyroidism three months back. TSH was normal, only T3 and T4 varied. So doctor prescribed thyronorm (25 mcg). Now again I underwent blood test which came normal with T3, T4 and TSH levels. I am still having the problem of hair loss though the results are normal now. How can hair loss be managed?

There is serious doubt about the diagnosis of hypothyroidism as in majority of hypothyroid patients TSH is first to rise unless the defect is at the level of pituitary gland. I would suggest you to stop thyroxine for 6 weeks and get TSH, free T4 along with anti-TPO from a relaible (accredited lab). If abnormal then we will take a decision about the treatment. Your hair loss may not be due to thyroid dysfunction so please consult a skin specialist.
