The use of eflornithine cream provides better and rapid results in laser hair removal.
Eflornithine is an FDA approved compound used to slow facial hair growth in women. In treating hirsutisma condition defined by excess facial hair, this cream has shown significant results in the removal of hair.
Researchers at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver evaluated the efficacy of adding eflornithine cream versus a placebo cream, in the treatment of 31 women undergoing laser removal of unwanted hair on the upper lip. Laser treatments were performed every 4 weeks for up to 6 sessions. Each patient also applied either eflornithine or placebo cream, twice daily to each side of the upper lip. The women did not know which cream they were using.
The results, showed complete or nearly complete hair removal was achieved in nearly 94 percent of the eflornithine-laser-treated sites versus 68 percent for the placebo cream-laser-treated sites. Not only were the dark facial hairs reduced, the patients were also satisfied with the aesthetic results.
This study shows that eflornithine cream is safe and effective in hair removal across different skin types.
