- Layla Massey, 30 weeks pregnant, was laid off by Oracle via email without prior notice
- Her role was eliminated due to organisational changes; system access was revoked immediately
- Oracle offered severance packages including salary payouts and benefits to affected employees
Oracle has laid off thousands of employees worldwide via email. While reflecting on the same, Austin Massey, a Texas-based man, shared how his 30-week pregnant wife, Layla Massey, was impacted. In a LinkedIn post, he said that his wife, who worked at the company for four years, received the termination email at 6:00 am, with no prior warning or phone call.
The email stated her role was being eliminated due to organisational changes, and the access to Oracle systems was revoked immediately. The employee is entitled to a severance package, including salary payouts and benefits.

"My wife is 30 weeks pregnant. This morning Oracle laid her off by email. She didn't walk in off the street. She interned there twice. She earned her spot on that team," he wrote, reflecting on his wife's career at Oracle.
"She went full time and never stopped giving more than what was asked. She built products, shipped code, created content for Oracle's own channels, mentored interns, and ran social evangelism for FreeSQL using her own audience."
He then added, "This morning she woke up locked out of every Oracle system she had access to. No call. No meeting. No manager. No warning. Just an email. And a DocuSign. That's it. That's how they did it. We have a 17-month-old at home."
"And Oracle couldn't pick up the phone."

Austin argued that he didn't write the post "out of anger", but slammed the insensitive approach, saying his wife "deserved better". The incident highlights concerns about Oracle's layoff practices, particularly regarding pregnant employees.
"... people need to see what this actually looks like from the inside. This is the human cost behind the headlines," he wrote.
Oracle's layoffs are part of a broader restructuring effort, aiming to invest in AI and cloud infrastructure. The company has cut around 30,000 jobs globally, with 12,000 impacted in India
It's a strange feeling, but I'm incredibly proud of what I was able to build over the past 4 years, from intern to full-time, and grateful for the experience, mentors, and teammates along the way.
In a post on her LinkedIn page, Layla reflected n the situation, by writing, "It's a strange feeling, but I'm incredibly proud of what I was able to build over the past 4 years, from intern to full-time, and grateful for the experience, mentors, and teammates along the way."
