Kriti Sanon hit back at Kangana Ranaut's attack over her attire in a Rakhi special advert in scathing words.
The actor also raised questions about the way women dress that constantly invites societal scrutiny.
"Also, when will we stop telling women what to wear?? Ethnic fashion has evolved over the years, but still a woman's respect for her culture is measured by just her clothes!! Culture & traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!" Kriti wrote.
"The essence of festivals is not in the clothes you wear, it is in the emotions and meaning you hold for the traditions," she wrote on her Instagram Stories.
Ditching the tradition of tying a Rakhi on a brother's wrist, Kriti Sanon shared that she and her sister celebrate the festival with equal zest and vigour.
"Rakshabandhan is a bond of protection. My sister and I tie rakhi to each other. We know we can protect each other no less than a brother would have. We pray for each other's health, happiness & long life. And for us, this prayer and promise extends to our dogs too! After all, they are family," she added.
The Controversy
In the jewellery advert, Kriti is seen wearing a bralette-style blouse with a cape and a draped skirt, raising eyebrows. Before Kangana Ranaut, a large section of the internet raised eyebrows over the westernised dress for a traditional festival of Rakhi.
Kangana Ranaut's Reaction
Taking a jibe at Kriti's advert, Kangana wrote on her Instagram Stories, "It's a wonderful time to be a woman. Our closets are full of a variety of clothes, today's woman is a global woman. From cocktail dresses to lehenga cholis, jeans to saris, bikinis to salwar kameez, from all the options that are available to us today why would you tie your brother a rakhi in your bikini/undergarments? Where are all your styling options? Ha ha the advert looks intentionally creepy!"
In another public jibe, Kangana Ranaut named Taapsee Pannu, Rakhi Sawant, Sonu Sood and Ashutosh Rana for making passing comments on her family, politics and public conduct.
Ranaut made it clear that she would not take advice from people who are not as successful as her, calling them "failed, stupid and disgusting" and saying she had no interest in listening to anything they had to say.
