Jana Nayagan was scheduled to release on January 9, a day before Parasakthi.

Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan is on cloud nine after the release of his film Parasakthi which finally hit the theatres as intended on January 10 after receiving its censor certificate a day before.

The actor, who is in Delhi to attend Pongal festivities at the residence of Union Minister L Murugan, spoke to NDTV in an exclusive interview about Parasakthi, Jana Nayagan, and meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jana Nayagan was scheduled to be released on January 9, a day before Parasakthi, but the Censor Board refused to grant the Vijay-starrer a censor certificate, following which the makers postponed the release of the film indefinitely.

Asked to comment on the ongoing Jana Nayagan censor-court row, Sivakarthikeyan told NDTV, "Whenever it comes, it will be a celebration."

Jana Nayagan was then examined by a new Censor panel ahead of the day of the release. The makers, production banner KVN Productions, then went to Madras High Court. On January 9, a single-bench judge directed the Censor Board to grant UA certification to the movie. The verdict was challenged by the Censor Board, with a Division Bench staying the order and posting the case post-Pongal. The Supreme Court, however, is likely to hear the makers' plea tomorrow, on January 15.

About Parasakthi, Sivakarthikeyan said that he is happy with the "amazing response" to his film and wished everyone on the occasion of Pongal.

"Let this festival spread joy and prosperity throughout the country... I'm very happy that I am celebrating Pongal here in Delhi. I'm meeting the Prime Minister for the first time. I'm excited to meet him," he added.

Asked about his expectations from the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls, the actor said, "I should not comment on it. I'm here to celebrate Pongal."

Parasakthi, set in 1960s Madras, explores the charged sociopolitical environment of Tamil Nadu during the anti-Hindi agitations. The Sudha Kongara directorial was also stuck in censor limbo, but was granted a UA certificate with 25 edits a day before its release on January 10.
