Live : Ranaghat Assembly Election 2021

The Ranaghat Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls on April 29 in the fourth phase of 2019 general election. The constituency comprises Nabadwip, Santipur, Ranaghat Uttar Paschim, Krishnaganj, Ranaghar Uttar Purba, Ranaghat Dakshin and Chakdaha assembly segments. The Krishnaganj, Ranaghar Uttar Purba, Ranaghat Dakshin assembly seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the scheduled caste category. The constituency lies in the Nadia district of West Bengal.

1756445 voters are expected to exercise their franchise this time in Ranaghat constituency, among which are 48 third gender voters. The voter turnout in this constituency was 84.45%. 14626 votes were exercised under NOTA option in this constituency in the last election.

Seven candidates are in fray for the Ranaghat seat.

This is the third time the Ranaghat constituency will go to polls. TMC has been winning this seat ever since the formation of this constituency in 2008 following delimitation law.

In 2014 general election, TMC's Tapas Mandal got 590451 votes and defeated CPI (M) candidate Archana Biswas by a margin of 201767 votes.

This time TMC is fielding Rupali Biswas, widow of slain TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas. The Krishnaganj MLA was shot from a point blank range by unidentified assailants in the evening of February 9 inside a Saraswati puja marquee at Phoolbari village in Nadia district, about 15 km from the Bangladesh border.

CPI (M) has nominated Rama Biswas against TMC and 6 other contenders which includes Jagannath Sarkar (BJP), Gautam Ray (Bahujan Samaj Party) and Minati Biswas (Congress) among key contestants.

Poll results will be announced on May 23.
