About Dum Dum

The Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency will vote on May 19 in the last phase of general election 2019. The constituency consists of seven segments-Khardaha, Dum Dum Uttar, Panihati, Kamarhati, Baranagar, Dum Dum and Rajarhat Gopalpur-- all of which are in the North 24 Parganas district. 

The sitting MP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) party candidate Saugata Roy will contest from the seat this time. He will contest with CPI (M) candidate Nepaldeb Bhattacharya and BJP contender Samik Bhattacharya. Saugata Roy has been representing the seat in the parliament since 2009 after he succeeded CPI (M) candidate Amitava Nandy. 

In the 2014 general election Saugata Roy had defeated CPI (M) candidate Asim Dasgupta by margin of more than 1 lakh votes. TMC's votes were 42.67% of the total votes. While BJP got 2,54,819 votes, Congress candidate Dhananjoy Moitra got 34,116 votes.

The 16th Lok Sabha election saw massive voter participation with more than one crore voter turnout. 

Last time, more than 16 thousand voters exercised their votes under NOTA option, which was 1.49% of the total votes. 

Nirmal Kanti Chatterjee, CPI (M) candidate, had won the seat in three consecutive terms and represented the constituency from 1989 to 1998.
