About Jalandhar

The Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency consists of Phillaur, Nakodar, Shahkot, Kartarpur , Jalandhar West, Jalandhar Central, Jalandhar North, Jalandhar Cantt., Adampur assembly segments. Under this constituency the Adampur, Jalandhar West, Kartarpur and Phillaur assembly seats fall under the scheduled caste category.

The constituency went to polls on May 19 in the seventh phase of 2019 general elections. The poll results will be released on May 23.

INC's Santokh Singh Chaudhary is the sitting MP from this constituency. In 2014 he defeated Pawan Kumar Tinu, the SAD nominated candidate in this seat by a margin of 70981. He is a member of the Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment and the consultative Committee of the Ministry of Urban Development, housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.  

This time the lok sabha elections will have Charanjit Singh Atwal, who was the SAD nominated candidate from this constituency along with INC's Santokh Singh Chaudhary and AAP's Jora Singh. They are among the 19 candidates who are in fray for the seat, of which are six independent candidates.

The General Elections of 2014 saw a total voter turnout of 1,551,497.
