About Hoshiarpur

The Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency, which is reserved under the scheduled caste category, consists of Hargobindpur, Bholath, Phagwara, Mukerian, Dasuya, Urmar, Sham Chaurasi, Hoshiarpur, Chabbewal assembly segments. Under this constituency the Hargobindpur, Phagwara, Sham Chaurasi and Chabbewal assembly seats fall under the scheduled caste category. 

The constituency went to polls on May 19 in the seventh phase of 2019 general elections. The poll results will be released on May 23.

BJP's Vijay Sampla is the sitting MP from this constituency. In 2014 he defeated Mohinder Singh Kaypee, the Congress nominated candidate in this seat by a margin of 13582. He is the Union Minister of State of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. He was also a member of the Standing Committee on External Affairs. 

This time the lok sabha elections will have Som Parkash, who was the BJP nominated candidate from this constituency along with INC's Raj Kumar Chabbewal, BSP's Khushi Ram and AAP's Ravjot Singh. They are among the six candidates who are in fray for the seat, of which are two independent candidates.

The General Elections of 2014 saw a total voter turnout of 1,485,286.
