In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Dr Thokchom Meinya defeated Moirangthem Nara of CPI. He had received 45.60% per cent of the votes cast in this constituency. A total of 855,359 electors - 417,122 of them male and 438,237 female -- were registered from the constituency.

About Manipur

Manipur has two Lok Sabha seats, one of which went to polls on April 11 and the other on April 18. While polling in the outer Manipur parliamentary constituency was largely peaceful in the first phase, voting in the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency which voted in the second phase was marred by complaints of malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs and poll violence, resulting which polling undertaken in 12 booths was declared "void" by the Election Commission. 

At least 78.20 per cent of the electorate exercising their franchise in Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency in the ongoing national elections.

Re-polling was held in the 12 booths in the constituency on April 24 amid enhanced security arrangements.

The Congress has replaced its sitting lawmaker Dr Thokchom Meinya in Inner Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency and has fielded Oinam Nabakishore Singh. The Congress candidate is up against Houlim Shokhopao Mate of the BJP and JD(U)'s Hangkhanpau Taithul. Eight candidates, including one independent, are contesting in For the Outer 

Manipur constituency. Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Houlim Shokhopao Benjamin Mate is up against K James of the Congress party.

In last election, 71.93 per cent or 7,73,817 voters exercised their franchise in outer Manipur. Of the 10 candidates who contested, the deposits of 8 of them were forfeited. Congress's Thangso Baite had won the seat by a margin of 15637 votes.
