About Bangalore North

In 2014 general elections, Union Minister and former chief minister of Karnataka, Sadananda Gowda of the Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP had won from Bangalore North Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 2,29,764, defeating C. Narayanaswamy of the Congress. Mr Gowda was polled 7,18,326 votes while the runner-up got 4,88,562 votes.

In this prestigious constituency, Sadananda Gowda is locked in a straight contest with Krishna Byre Gowda, a Congress minister in the state in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. With both the candidates being Vokkaligas, votes of other communities will decide their fate.

Though Bangalore North was allotted to the JD(S) as part of the pre-poll seat-sharing arrangement in the ratio of 20 for the Congress and 8 for the JD(S), the latter gifted the prestigious seat to the former as it did not have a winnable candidate.

Of the 16 elections held in this constituency so far, the most successful party is the Congress which has won on 12 occasions from here. Late former Union Railways Minister CK Jaffer Sharief had won from this constituency 7 times.
