About Surat

In the 2014 general elections, Darshana Jardosh of the BJP was elected from Surat Lok Sabha constituency with a massive margin of 5,33,190 votes. The BJP candidate received 7,18,412 votes while Congress's Naishadhbhai Desai got 1,85,222 votes.

In 2009, Darshana Jardosh was elected for the first time after defeating Dhirubhai Haribhai Gajer of the Congress.

Late former union minister Kashiram Rana of the BJP had represented this constituency 6 times consecutively - from 1989 to 2004.

Former Prime Minister Morarji Desai too was elected from Surat. He had been elected as a member of parliament 5 times, three times as a Congress nominee, then as a Congress (O) nominee and later as BLD nominee.

The Surat Lok Sabha constituency went to polls on April 23 in the third phase of the 2019 general elections. Surat is one of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat. It consists of Olpad, Surat Purva, Surat Uttar, Varachha Marg, Karanj, Katargam and Surat Pashchim assembly segments.
