About Rajkot

The Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency went to polls in the third phase of the 2019 general election, on April 23. Rajkot voted along with the remaining 25 constituencies in the state. The Rajkot seat consists of Tankara, Wankaner, Rajkot East, Rajkot West, Rajkot South, Rajkot Rural and Jasdan assembly segments. A total of 18,83,866 voters will cast their vote in Rajkot in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, among which 9,79,670 are male voters, 9,04,178 are female voters, and 18 transgender voters.

The maximum number of registered voters in the constituency are in Rajkot West, and the least number of voters are in Tankara.

Since 1989, Rajkot has remained a  BJP stronghold - the only exception being 2009, when Congress's Kuvarjibhai Bavalia won the election. He was succeeded by BJP candidate Mohanbhai Kalyanjibhai Kundariya in 2014.

In 2014, Congress lost the seat to the BJP by a margin of 2,46,428 votes. The voter turnout in the last election was 63.89 per cent.

BJP is fielding the sitting MP Mohanbhai Kalyanjibhai Kundariya for the 2019 general elections. The Congress has nominated Lalitbhai Kagathara as its candidate from this seat. Vijay Parmar is among the key contenders, and will be contesting on Bahujan Samaj Party ticket.

Among 10 contestants for the Rajkot seat, 7 independent candidates.
