Mahesana Lok Sabha constituency, one of 26 Lok Sabha segments in Gujarat, went to polls in the third phase of the 2019 general elections, on April 23.  

About Mahesana

Gujarat's Mahasena Lok Sabha constituency, which voted on April 23, had 16,47,470 registered voters. The entire state voted in a single day in the third phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha election. The Mahasena constituency consists of Unjha, Visnagar, Becharaji, Kadi, Mahasena, Vijapur and Mansa assembly segments. The Kadi seat is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category. While highest number of voters are in Mahasena, least have been registered in Vijapur.

The Mahasena seat is a stronghold of the BJP since 1984. Congress had won the seat in 1999 and 2004.

Former Union Minister AK Patel was the 5-time elected member of parliament from the Mahasena constituency.

In the 2014 general election, Jayshreeben Kanubhai Patel had won the seat by a margin of 2,08,891 votes defeating Congress's Jivabhai Ambalal Patel. In 2014, the voter turnout was 67.03 per cent in this constituency.

For the 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJP is fielding Shardaben Anilbhai Patel on the Mahasena seat. Ms Patel is the wife of Late Anilbhai Tribhovandas Patel, former Industry Minister in Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government. Anilbhai Patel died in 2018.

Shardaben Patel will be contesting against Congress's AJ Patel, BSP's Prahladbhai Natthubhai Chauhan among 11 contenders. 5 contestants have filed their nomination as independent candidates.
