About Junagadh

The Junagadh Lok Sabha constituency comprises Junagadh, Visavadar, Mangrol, Somanth, Talala, Kodinar and Una assembly seats, among which the Kodinar seat is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category. A total of 16,41,528 voters were registered from this constituency for the polls which were held on April 23.

Junagadh and the other 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat voted on the same day in third phase of seven-phase 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Once a Congress bastion, Junagadh has been a stronghold of the BJP since 1991, except in 2004 when Congress's Jashubhai Dhanabhai Barad won the election.

BJP is fielding incumbent MP Rajeshbhai Naranbhai Chudasama as its candidate for the Jungadh seat this time. Chudasama Rajeshbhai Naranbhai had made the party victorious by garnering 5,13,179 votes, while his nearest rival, Congress's Punjabhai Bhimabhai Vansh got 3,77,347 votes.

While Congress has decided not to pit any new candidate against BJP's Chudasama Rajeshbhai Naranbhai, Bahujan Samaj Party has given a ticket to Deven Govindbhai Vanvi.

The voter turnout was 63.43 per cent in 2014 general election.

Among the 12 contenders are 7 independent candidates who will be contesting for the Junagadh seat. Regional parties -- Rashtriya Samajwadi Party (Secular) and Vyavastha Parivartan Party -- have also fielded their candidates in the constituency.

The poll results will be announced on May 23.
