About Dhubri

In the 2014 general election, Badruddin Ajmal from AIUDF was elected from Dhubri seat in Assam. He received 5,92,569 votes and won by a margin of 2,29,730 votes against his closest opponent Wazed Ali Choudhury who contested on a ticket from Congress and received 3,62,839 votes.

Badruddin Ajmal was elected to parliament in the 2009 general election on a ticket from AUDF. He received 5,40,820 votes. His closest opponent was Anwar Hussain who received 3,56,401 votes.

Dhubri seat in Assam is reserved for scheduled tribe candidates. Before 2009, this seat was a stronghold of the Congress.

In 1971, Moin-ul-Haque Chowdhury of the Congress was elected from Dhubri. In 1977, Ahmmad Hossen from Congress was elected.

In 1985 Independent candidate Abdul Hamid was elected from Dhubri. In 1991 and 1996, Nurul Islam was elected from Dhubri on a ticket from Congress. In 1998 and 1999, Congress candidate Abdul Hamid was elected. In 2004, another Congress candidate, Anwar Hussain was elected from Dhubri.

For the 2019 general election, Congress has fielded Abu Taher Bepari. Badruddin Ajmal, the incumbent MP, will again contest on a ticket from AIUDF. Asom Gana Parishad has fielded Zabed Islam.

There are ten assembly segments under the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency. These include Mankachar, Salmara South, Dhubri, Gauripur, Golakganj, Bilasipara East, Bilasipara West, Goalpara East, Goalpara West, and Jaleswar.
