NCERT has denied reports claiming Ramayana and Mahabharata will be part of school textbooks.
New Delhi:

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has denied news report, which claimed that Ramayana and Mahabharat will be included in school curriculum. The news was widely reported, with news agency ANI saying the recommendation was made by a high-level panel. The Social Science Committee, led by Professor CI Isaac, had also reportedly proposed several modifications to the current curriculum, including restructuring the history syllabus into four segments, the report further said. But NCERT refuted the report, with sources telling NDTV there is no such committee and "whatever Issac is saying is in his personal capacity".

Sources further clarified that the education body had issued a strong denial on such claims by him earlier too.

The committee's suggestions were sent to a 19-member National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), set up in July, the ANI report had said. This committee is responsible for finalising the curriculum, textbooks, and learning materials for respective classes.

To align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, NCERT is revising the school curriculum, and the new NCERT textbooks are expected to be ready for the upcoming academic session.
