Students who were declared passed by replacing a main subject with an additional subject, but who wished to appear again in the main subject in which they had not secured the qualifying marks were eligible to sit for the supplementary exam held on July 28, 2026.

A total of 14,96,307 students passed the CBSE Class 12 board exam last year, recording an overall pass percentage of 88.39 per cent. 

According to CBSE, students who could not secure the qualifying marks in one of the five mandatory subjects come under the 'Compartment' category.

A total of 1,63,800 candidates are placed in the 'Compartment' category by the board, as per official information. 

More than 9,000 teachers participated in capacity-building programmes conducted by the CBSE on various skill subjects and modules during the 2025-26 academic session, the government told Rajya Sabha on August 5. 

According to a report by the ANI, the Ministry of Education has integrated AI into school education through CBSE and NCERT under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023.

CBSE currently offers a 15-hour AI skill module from Class VI onwards, while AI is also available as an optional subject for Classes IX-XII.

The board announced the CBSE 12th result 2026 on May 13, recording an overall pass percentage of 85.20 per cent. The exams were conducted from February 17 to April 10, 2026, for 17,80,365 registered candidates.

In simple student-friendly language, compartment is for students who failed in one or limited number of subjects, while improvement is for students who already passed but want better marks. For most families, the key difference is this: compartment is about saving the year, and improvement is about raising the score.

The Central Board of Secondary Education announced that the KVS, NVS and EMRS recruitment  tier 2 results will be declared in phases, commencing mid-August 2026.

As part of its post-result services, students were allowed to obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer books between May 19 and May 25. • Improvement of performance in one subject for candidates who passed the main examination 2026.
