Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday issued a series of directions to the capital's key agencies, asking them to work together instead of in silos on issues that cut across multiple departments.
The directions came at a coordination meeting involving senior officials from the Delhi government, Delhi Police, Delhi Development Authority, or DDA, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, or MCD, and Delhi Fire Service.
Mr Sandhu called for a "whole of government" approach, particularly in matters requiring swift joint action on the ground.
More Police In Narela
Narela was among the areas that received specific attention.
The Delhi Police has been directed to enhance its presence and ensure security in the fast-developing area. The MCD, meanwhile, has been asked to improve civic amenities there.
The focus on Narela comes amid a fresh development push in the area. The DDA last month announced a 25 per cent discount on more than 1,200 ready-to-move flats in Narela under its Karmajeevi Awaas Yojana.
Unused Parking Sites To Open
Parking was another major issue on the agenda.
The Lt Governor directed authorities to operationalise unused parking sites across the city at the earliest. He also stressed the need for more multi-level parking facilities as pressure on available space continues to grow.
The move also comes days after Delhi's Master Plan 2047 was unveiled, laying out a long-term roadmap for the capital's growth, housing and transport infrastructure. The plan includes a unified framework for parking and transport.
The immediate question, however, is simpler: when existing parking sites are lying unused, can they be brought into service quickly?
That is now the task before the agencies.
Encroachments, Fire Preparedness Reviewed
The meeting also reviewed coordination between the MCD and DDA on encroachment removal drives and fire preparedness.
These are among the issues that often require several agencies to act together, with responsibilities spread across civic bodies, land-owning authorities, police and emergency services.
Lt Governor Sandhu said agencies must work in close coordination rather than separately.
MCD Told To Speed Up Vendor Surveys
The MCD has also been directed to complete vendor surveys expeditiously and constitute Town Vending Committees at the earliest.
The move is aimed at demarcating and designating vending spaces across the city.
Schools Also On Agenda
Mr Sandhu also called for greater outreach in schools and a stronger connect between authorities, teachers and students as part of ongoing civic and safety initiatives, including the enforcement of POCSO guidelines.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, Delhi Police Commissioner, Principal Secretary (Home), DDA Vice Chairman, senior MCD officials and the Principal Director of Delhi Fire Service.
