The Karnataka High Court has delivered a decisive verdict in the Yezdi trademark dispute, ruling in favour of Boman Irani. The Division Bench overturned a 2022 single-judge order that had barred Classic Legends from using the Yezdi name following claims by the official liquidator of Ideal Jawa, the brand's original owner.
In its judgment, the Bench confirmed that the trademark registrations secured by Irani are valid and fully compliant with the Trade Marks Act, thereby granting him rightful ownership of the iconic motorcycle brand.

Ideal Jawa stopped making bikes in 1996 and went into liquidation in 2001. Its Yezdi trademark registrations expired between 2007 and 2008 and were removed from the register. For over 15 years, neither the company nor the liquidator renewed them or challenged their removal. The court treated this long silence as abandonment. Meanwhile, Boman Irani applied for fresh Yezdi registrations from 2013, secured them legally, and actively defended the brand, even fighting a case in the Delhi High Court.

Boman Irani, Co-Founder of Classic Legends and Chairman and MD of Rustomjee Group, said, "The verdict feels much more momentous than a fateful personal victory for my family's legacy. It reaffirms that the perseverance in keeping heritage brands alive never goes unrewarded. The honourable court and judges have supported our efforts to renew Yezdi through innovation and lawful means. I know my father would have wanted me to blaze a trail with brand Yezdi, which has been a part of me since my childhood, and I thank the Indian judicial system for recognising our efforts in carrying forward the legacy for future generations."
