Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has flagged off an electric bus marking Tata Motors' 1 million unit production milestone at its Lucknow plant. The milestone vehicle, a zero-emission electric bus, was rolled out from the company's 600 acre facility, which has been operational since 1992 and has emerged as one of Tata Motors' key commercial vehicle production hubs.

The 10 lakhth bus reflects over three decades of continuous manufacturing at the Lucknow plant. During the event, CM Yogi Adityanath described the occasion as a moment of "immense pride and joy" for the state, linking the achievement to the government's broader push to position UP as a global manufacturing destination. The choice of an electric bus as the milestone vehicle also aligns with the state's stated focus on green mobility and low-emission transport solutions.

In his statement, Yogi Adityanath said, "Our vision is to transform Uttar Pradesh into a one-trillion-dollar economy, with industry and entrepreneurs playing a pivotal role in this journey. The state offers a conducive ecosystem for scalable businesses, supported by a vast consumer market, a young, skilled workforce, and seamless connectivity.

Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, who attended the programme, noted that the Lucknow plant is targeting 20 lakh vehicles over the next five years, indicating a steep rise in production tempo compared to the more than 30 years taken to reach the first million.

The plant already supports around 8,000 direct employees and contributes to a wider ecosystem of parts suppliers and training initiatives such as Kaushalya and Lakshya, which aim to build local technical skills. With the state administration encouraging investments in EV and hydrogen powered buses, the milestone underscores both industrial capacity and policy driven energy transition goals.
