During his presentation, Hidalgo also revealed that 36 per cent of the total pre-bookings for the hybrid came from metro cities. This is a market which has been a strong suit for SUVs with petrol powertrains. However, the new data by the brand reveals a change in consumer preferences. Renault Duster is one of the very few mid-size SUVs with a hybrid powertrain on offer. The other options in the country include Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which shares its powertrain with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and its rebadged version, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. If reports are to be trusted, models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos will also get a hybrid powertrain with a generation change.
Diving into the details, the Renault Duster features a hybrid powertrain that includes a 1.8-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine. This setup merges a 109 hp petrol engine with a 49 hp electric motor and a 20 hp hybrid starter generator, powered by a 1.4 kWh battery. The overall system produces a total output of 160 hp and 172 Nm. The model with this setup will be available in the market by Diwali 2026.
