India's motorcycle and scooter market opened calendar year 2026 with impressive momentum, as leading manufacturers reported strong gains across domestic sales and exports. A mix of improved rural demand, steady recovery in urban centres, and healthy overseas traction ensured that January delivered both year-on-year and month-on-month growth for the industry.
Hero MotoCorp
Hero MotoCorp maintained its dominance, dispatching 5,20,208 units in January. This represented a 26.15% YoY increase, translating into a commanding 28.40% market share. The brand's commuter motorcycles continue to anchor its leadership, especially in rural regions where affordability and reliability remain key.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India
Honda stayed neck-and-neck with Hero, selling 5,19,579 units. Its growth rate was even sharper at 28.94% YoY, with a market share of 28.36%. The Activa scooter remains Honda's crown jewel, driving volumes in both metros and smaller towns.
TVS Motor Company
TVS held firm in third place, recording 3,83,262 units in January. This marked a 30.42% YoY rise, powered by consistent demand for the Apache series and Jupiter scooter. The company's balanced portfolio across motorcycles and scooters continues to resonate with diverse buyers.

Bajaj Auto
Bajaj Auto ranked fourth, selling 2,14,727 units. This was a 25.35% YoY increase, while month-on-month growth was even more striking at 62.39%, thanks to strong demand for the Pulsar range. Bajaj's export strength also contributed to its overall momentum.
Suzuki Motorcycle India
Suzuki rounded out the top five with 1,00,296 units, a 14.19% YoY rise. Month-on-month growth was modest at 2.53%, but steady demand for the Access scooter and Gixxer motorcycles kept the brand competitive.
