- Tesla has stopped production of Model S and Model X

Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla has halted the production of the Model S and Model X. With this, he also confirmed that the electric vehicle manufacturer is no longer accepting custom orders and only around 600 units are left in the inventory. Along with the tweet, Musk shared a throwback photo with the original Model S, which was launched 14 years ago in June 2012.
In his tweet, Elon Musk said, "Custom orders of the Tesla Model S & X have come to an end. All that's left are some in inventory. We will have an official ceremony to mark the ending of an era. I love those cars."

Tesla Model S, Model X Production Ends
The news of the end of production of Model S and Model X came out with Tesla's Q4 2025 earnings call in January. At the time, the brand called it an "honourable discharge" for the two electric cars. At the time, Musk urged consumers to order the cars while they still could. At the time, the brand also revealed that the factory space for the cars would be converted for the production of Optimus robots.
14 Year Market Run
The Model S was Tesla's first vehicle targeted at the mass market, launched in June 2012. Talking of achievement, it became the top-selling electric vehicle globally in both 2015 and 2016, with over 50,000 units sold in 2015 alone. The Model X was introduced in 2015 and is known for its distinctive Falcon-wing doors. Together, these two models have achieved over 610,000 deliveries throughout their production periods.

What's Available
According to EV-CPO, Tesla currently has approximately 295 new Model S units and 301 new Model X units available in global inventory, primarily located in the United States. No new units are remaining in Canada or Europe.
Tesla's website has removed the configurator for both models, allowing buyers to view only the remaining pre-configured inventory vehicles. The available units come with incentives such as free DC fast charging at Tesla Superchargers and complimentary lifetime Premium Connectivity.
