Glasgow Airport flights resume after evacuation

London: Airport officials have said that flights at Glasgow Airport in Scotland have resumed after an emergency evacuation of a plane on the runway brought a brief halt to traffic.

The airport said a Boeing 737 operated by Jet2, bound for Alicante, Spain, was preparing for takeoff when smoke was reported in the cabin shortly after 7 am on Friday. It said the plane's 189 passengers were evacuated by emergency chutes as a precaution.

The Strathclyde Police force says four people were taken to a hospital and 13 received medical treatment at the scene for minor injuries.

Airport officials say the runway reopened after a brief closure but that flights could still experience delays.
