"Old laws are sometimes statues where the entire statue can be repelled at one go," says eminent Economist Bibek Debroy, talking about laws which are inappropriate and hence needs to change or be abolished. He says around 1200 laws have disappeared from the law book. He gives an example of the Bengal District Acts of 1836 which empower the state to create any states as possible but any state can do it anyway and hence it's not required. Similarly, he gives an example of the Indian Aircraft Act which was passed in 1934 where it defined Aircraft to contain not only aeroplanes but also kites and balloons, which would mean that you will need a permit to even to fly a kite.
