There is disagreement among temple heads in the coastal town of Udipi in Karnataka over whether the head of the Puthige Mutt, Swami Sugunendra Teertha, be allowed to perform puja at the famous Udupi Krishna temple. The question arose after the Mutt head went to the United States and Chechnya, despite being told by the other mutt heads who share the responsibility of running the temple, that it would affect his purity.
