Three thirty eight people in Mumbai stepped into the New Year on the wrong foot - driving straight into the traffic police's net for drunken driving. This is the highest number of arrests in one night, despite the police's prolonged campaign for the past six months. As Mumbai drove, rather wildly into 2008, the police welcomed revellers with barricades and breath analysers.
