Rapid development in Mumbai has meant that villages in the heart of the city are now fighting to keep their heritage alive - a battle that has pitted them not just against strong builders but also the government. In fact, this could mean that the gaothans, or villages - some dating back to the 16th century, could soon disappear and make way for the concrete jungle.
