Rajam Mahadevia wakes up to a cloud of smoke every morning, arising from the Deonar dumping ground. These fumes emanate from garbage burnt by rag pickers in the area. Like many in her colony in Chembur, the 66-year-old has developed acute bronchitis, a disease that struck four years ago. "The doctors say its been caused by pollution. I did all the tests. I have cough and congestion and I can't sleep at night," said Rajam Mahadevia, resident, Chembur.
