Protests Over Yamuna

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Tej Pratap Yadav has threatened to launch a protest if the government fails to clean the Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh's Braj region.

Individuals caught throwing waste items and "religious items" in Yamuna in Delhi will be fined Rs 5,000, the National Green Tribunal has announced. The announcement is in line with the Centre's fresh efforts to clean up the Ganga.

Expressing concern over the "sorry state" of river Yamuna, members in the Lok Sabha on Monday unanimously asked the government to save the "lifeline" of people from pollution.

Scores of farmers on Thursday blocked traffic on the Yamuna Expressway demanding toll free movement on the road. The farmers protested under the banner of the 'Bhartiya Kisan Union' at the zero point of the Expressway. Police detained over two dozen farmers and took them to police lines.
