To promote manufacturing in the country, the government on Friday issued norms for setting up of National Investment and Manufacturing Zones (NIMZs) with host of benefits, including exemption from capital gains tax.

Some 51 countries have confirmed their participation in the "Emerging Kerala 2012" investment meet to be held here Sep 12-14, officials said. Alkesh Kumar Sharma, managing director of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), said the response has been tremendous.

Kerala has sought the central government's approval for the Kochi-Palakkad National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ), a Rs 53,825 crore mega industrial infrastructure project, according to State Industries Minister PK Kunhalikutty.

With several mega infrastructure projects being planned in the state, Kerala is now looking at active private sector participation in them, said PK Kunhalikutty, Minister for Industries and Information Technology (IT), here on Monday.
