For Sunita Bai, a walk to the fields every morning to go the toilet was as much a struggle as an embarrassment. This August, the 26-year-old, who suffers from polio, managed to convince her father-in-law, a poor landless labourer, to build a toilet at their home.

In a unique protest of its kind, 50,000 landless people from 26 states under the banner of an NGO Ekta Parishad, are expected to start a jan satyagraha (people's movement) today by walking from Gwalior to Delhi. The distance, about 350 km, will be covered in about a month.
