BJP has misled the voters, Akhilesh Yadav tells NDTV: highlights

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav speaks to NDTV on its show The Game Changers.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who many feel could be a game changer in the next month's Lok Sabha election, spoke to NDTV on its show The Game Changers.

The Samajwadi Party had swept the 2012 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. If it had subsequently performed well, then Narendra Modi's path to the PM chair may well have been far more difficult. As it is, has Akhilesh left the door open for Modi to win in Uttar Pradesh?

Here are the highlights:

  • Every party wants to win seats in Uttar Pradesh, it has 80 seats.
  • BJP thinks if they win seats in Uttar Pradesh, they will be visible nationally.
  • Sensible voters will vote for secular forces.
  • What agenda has BJP brought? They reflected Gujarat figures. They've misled voters.
  • People will vote for a party that has worked at the grassroots.
  • BJP is cunning. This is the time to stop communal forces. Samajwadi Party will stop these forces.
